Deep 4-32 Koa #1619

This beautiful Deep 4 features a semi-hollow body made from alder, with an aged curly koa top (from 50+ year old wood- perfect for instrument making). The 32” scale neck is made of mahogany, which gives a very warm, full tone, but also with a fast transient response. The fingerboard is ebano, which is a composite made from ebony fibers. This material rivals the very best ebony, but is even more stable. Since it is made with remnant wood, it is a more sustainable approach. Maple line markers are imbedded in what would be the fret slots, then sanded perfectly flush. Originally, Deep 4 basses were offered with the volume and tone controls integrated into the bridge, however I have come to the conclusion that you can get some of the very best tones from this bass by palm muting, Therefore the stacked tone control (cut/boost of treble and bass) has been moved to the face of the instrument. Strings are La Bella 760n, a steel flatwound, with a thin black nylon outer wrap. These strings give a silky smooth feel that make playing fretless very comfortable, plus sound great; punchy, yet very full and warm. A custom made form fit hardshell case (courtesy of G&G cases in Los Angeles, Ca) rounds out the package.
