Deep 4 Koa Fretted 34" Scale Bass #1626
Deep 4 Koa Fretted 34" Scale Bass #1626
Deep 4 Koa Fretted #1626. This is a very unique one-off Deep 4 bass. It features an alder semi-hollow body, with an aged curly koa top (from 50+ year old stock) with the most beautiful glowing color to it, that reminds me of a California sunset. The koa has a very fine curl pattern to it, and from certain angles is very 3D, but it can also appear to be be quite subtle looking from a distance. The 34” scale neck is a 5 piece laminate, made from 3 pieces of black walnut, and two ebony strips. Since every piece of wood has it’s own resonant frequency, and wants to move in a certain direction under stress, the 5 pieces all work to counter balance and stabilize each other, to make an extremely consistent, even sounding, stable neck. The fingerboard is Brazilian rosewood, again from aged stock (over 30 years old), with a matching Brazilian rosewood overlay on the headstock. This wood has excellent sustain properties, in that it is considerably harder that Indian Rosewood, and si known for it’s sonorous quality. It pairs perfectly with the walnut neck. The frets are nickel silver, vintage sized.
The pickup is a single coil design, medium~low output (7.4k) with alnico 5 rod magnets, for a true vintage single coil sound. The bobbin top is made from Brazilian rosewood. There is no piezo pickup on this bass, it is all passive, with a volume control integrated into the bridge, and a passive tone control mounted on the face of the instrument. The bridge saddle is hand made from aluminium. This custom instrument is truly one of a kind!
Strings are Rotosound steel flatwounds. A form fit hardshell case, locally made (in Los Angeles, Ca) is included. It fits the bass like a hand in a glove, with zero movement.
